Our Story

Charter Bank was organized and opened March of 2008 to provide personal service to individuals and businesses along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Financial institutions that existed for decades were being merged into large nationwide banks or by regional banks with an eye on expansion. What was being lost through these mergers and acquisitions was a concern for the customer and the environment of a local community, a niche Charter Bank would be able to fill.

The group of community leaders leading the bank's organization approached the Bank's development as a community-oriented Bank. The Mississippi Gulf Coast has a diverse population with a keen interest in financial matters.

Since the first branch was opened in Biloxi, three other branches have followed in Pascagoula, Ocean Springs, and Gulfport. The Pascagoula branch opened in 2009 and has made a significant difference in the community. Ocean Springs opened in late 2009    to the meet the customers demand for convenience in a market that is steeped in tradition and small businesses that felt forgotten by the big banks and to fill  the footprint between Biloxi and Pascagoula.

In March of 2009, the Bank purchased T. Graham Mortgage, Inc. to address the needs of its customers for long-term mortgage products. T. Graham Mortgage has been a successful addition to Charter Bank.

Charter opened in the Gulfport market in July of 2010 with high expectations to capture a portion of the business and consumer needs in the fast-growing Orange Grove and West Harrison County markets.

In January 2016, the Ocean Springs branch was relocated to a new full service financial center, including a community room which is open to the public for civic and community meetings. The branch is staffed for financial service transactions, commercial lending, consumer lending, drive up accommodations, and easy access ATM and night drop services. The branch location also provides significant exposure to the market.

With four strategically located branches, Charter Bank has truly assumed the position to become a leading Community Bank on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
